Its history dates back more than 45,000 years. World's oldest cave paintings discovered in Indonesia
Archaeologists have discovered the world's oldest known cave painting in Indonesia, a life-size image of a wild boar that dates back 45,500 years.
The discovery was described in the journal Science Advances as the oldest evidence of human settlement in the region.
Maxime Aubert of Australia's Griffith University, a co-scientist on the discovery team, told AFP that the painting was discovered in 2017 on the island of Sulawesi by doctoral student Baslan Burhan. part of a joint study conducted by the team with Indonesian authorities.

Leang Tedongnge Cave is located in a remote valley surrounded by limestone cliffs, about an hour's walk from the nearest road, and is only accessible during the dry season due to flooding during the rainy season.
Local Bugis residents told the team of archaeologists that Westerners had never seen the painting before.
The painting measures 136 cm x 54 cm (53 in x 21 in), and the pig is painted in dark red paint to look like an adult male, with two handprints next to the figure.
Pigs have been hunted by humans for tens of thousands of years, and they are an important feature in prehistoric artwork from the region, particularly during the Ice Age.
Aubert, an expert in dating, identified "calcite deposits" that formed on top of the painting and then used "uranium series isotopes" to determine the painting's age, which put it at 45,500 years old.
The same team discovered the oldest petroglyphs in Sulawesi. It depicts a group of humans and animals and was found to be 43,900 years old. These cave paintings help understand early human migrations.
It is understood that humans arrived in Australia 65,000 years ago, but they may have had to travel through Indonesia's Wallace Islands.
The site now represents the oldest evidence of humans in the Wallace area, and it is hoped that further research will help prove earlier humans lived in the area.
To create a handprint, an artist must place their hand on a surface and then spit dye onto it, and the team hopes to try to extract DNA samples from the saliva.
The history of painting can be traced back to the industrial production of prehistoric humans and extends to all cultures. It represents a tradition that has continued since time immemorial, despite occasional interruptions. The history of painting is an ongoing river of creativity that stretches into the twenty-first century and spans thousands of years across cultures and continents. He relied mainly on figurative, religious and classical forms until the early twentieth century, after which he acquired a more abstract and intellectual approach.
The development of Eastern painting is historically consistent with Western painting centuries ago. African art, Jewish art, Islamic art, Indian art, Chinese art, Japanese art have all had a great influence on Western art and vice versa.
Eastern and Western paintings initially served utilitarian purposes, later came under imperial, private, civil, and religious patronage, and later found audiences among the aristocracy and middle class. Starting from modern times, the creations of medieval painters originated from the artistic activities of the church and wealthy nobles. From the Baroque era onwards, artists received private commissions from the educated and wealthy middle class. Finally in the West, the concept of "art for art's sake" began to be reflected in the work of Romantic painters such as Francisco de Goya, John Constable and J.M. besides. turner. The nineteenth century saw the rise of commercial art galleries, which provided patronage into the twentieth century.
